Russia is believed to have developed a vaccine for Covid-19

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin said on 11 August 2020 that Russia has succeeded in developing an effective vaccine for Covid-19.

The vaccine, called "Sputnik V", will be administered as early as next week to the people most exposed to the disease (health workers and teachers). The rest of the population is to wait for the injection, which is expected to be available by early 2021.

Covid-19 has been given regulatory approval after less than two months of testing on humans. The final phase of the trial shall start next Wednesday.

More than a billion doses have already been pre-ordered by 20 foreign countries.
