Russian aircraft fire causes 41 fatalities

Assurances MaghrebiaOn May 5th, 2019 a Soukhoï SuperJet 100 has burst into flames after an emergency landing at Cheremetievo airport, Moscow. The accident has caused the death of 41 people. There were 78 people on board including the crew.

The plane pertaining to the Russian airline company Aeroflot had issued a distress alert a few minutes after its take-off to Murmansk. When the aircraft returned to its point of departure, it attempted a first emergency landing, in vain. It eventually landed after a second attempt with a burning landing gear.

According to the captain, Denis Evdokimov, the accident was caused by lightning. The exact circumstances of the claim are yet to be known.
