Storm makes landfall in Venice

The bad weather that hit Italy on Sunday, October 28th, 2018 caused the death of ten people. The storm, with winds reaching 180 km/h, damaged infrastructure, buildings and cars, causing trees to fall and power lines to be disrupted and also causing landslides.

Nearly three-quarters of Venice (north-east) was submerged by waters reaching 154 cm in some places.

The tourist city's anti-flood defenses have once again proved to be ineffective at containing the damage caused by bad weather. Due to the extent of the damage reported, insurers will be bound to call on their reinsurers.
