The toll of natural catastrophes is better for insurers in 2012

The year 2012 has been mild on insurers according to Swiss Re which revealed that the natural catastrophes occurring in 2012 will cost the insurance business 65 billion USD. Economic losses are estimated at 140 billion USD, well below the figures of 2011 when insurers and reinsurers disbursed nearly 105 billion USD. The natural catastrophes that occurred in 2012 were more numerous and destructive in the United States whereas in 2010 and 2011, it was Asia Pacific and Latin American areas that were hardest hit.
