WAICA Re announces the vacancy of the position of Underwriter (Officer- Technical) to be based in Tunisia.


Job purpose

The Underwriter (Officer Technical)role is responsible for assisting with underwriting and marketing the non-life reinsurance business by analyzing risk, managing client relationships, coordinating the tools and daily administration for servicing assumed and ceded reinsurance treaties and providing operation processes to support efficient service delivery. Working with the Regional Director, to ensure the growth in market share in the region in a profitable manner. 

Job duties and responsibilities

  • To analyze risks and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Responsible for new and renewal premium in the region on assigned accounts for both treaty and facultative risks.
  • Liaising with the Assistant Manager (Technical) to identify new production opportunities through research of new and existing markets, products and works.
  • To process technical statements and facultative closings.
  • Maintaining cash call schedule, ledgers and following up outstanding cash call credits from cedants.
  • Following up on outstanding premium for assigned accounts
  • Liaising with the Finance department to ensure that claims processing is done accurately and settled in a timely manner.
  • Prepares reports prior to any marketing visit to ensure all clients’ accounts are up to date.
  • Handling client queries within his/ her portfolio with a response time within 24 hours.
  • To monitor and validate claims to ensure that only the genuine claims are paid.
  • Where required, visiting and engaging existing and potential customers including brokers regarding performance of the portfolio and opportunities
  • Ensure that treaty and facultative contracts are created accurately in the system.
  • Assisting in reconciliations as may be required by cedants and brokers.
  • Ensure that all the deadlines in the performance of various duties and tasks set by management are met.
  • Command of the Reinsurance system including but not limited to keeping records of business offered, declined and accepted on SICs system.
  • Run various underwriting/claims reports requested by Assistant Manager (Technical)/Senior Manager (Technical) for analysis.
  • Contribute to system testing, ad hoc projects and research work.

Candidate Profile
Qualifications

  • A Degree in Insurance or related field

Professional qualifications

  • Studying towards a relevant professional qualification

Experience

  • At least 3 year experience in insurance
  • Knowledge of Non-Life Underwriting, treaty wordings (proportional and non‐proportional) and facultative.
  • Experience of data management and producing Management Information relative to both Inward and Outwards Reinsurance
