In Nepal, fraud remains a widespread scourge affecting, among others, the insurance sector.
Nepal's trekking agencies (large mountain hikes) are said to be behind multiple cases of fraud. They would charge their customers' insurers for fake helicopter rescues, as well as for the costs of extensive medical examinations for simple altitude-related headaches. They would also use helicopter operators and private clinics against a commission.
An official inquiry will soon be launched by the Nepalese ministry of tourism to put an end to this growing scourge threatening the entire insurance industry.
