Faced with the resurgence of traffic accidents, the Algerian government has decided to stiffen the penalties for traffic violations. Some of the proposed road safety measures include:
- the criminalization of non-compliance with the highway code,
- quarterly technical inspection of vehicles dedicated to passenger transport,
- the reinforcement of control over bus passenger transport companies,
- the tightening of sanctions against those involved in issuing driving licenses to unqualified individuals.
