Parafiscal tax and natural disasters in Morocco

The Moroccan government has adopted a bill establishing a new parafiscal tax. The decree proposes to levy 1% of the premiums and contributions of insurance policies to support the solidarity fund against natural disaster events. Life insurance policies are not covered by this measure.

The new regulation is part of a comprehensive strategy for anticipating and managing natural disasters, the number of which is increasing as a result of climate change.

Created in 2016, the fund aims to compensate victims of natural disasters (floods, earthquakes) who do not have an insurance policy to cover such events.
