Electric car brands with irreparable batteries

batteries electric carAn investigation carried out by Reuters in association with British and American insurers has revealed that a large number of Tesla, Nissan, Hyundai, BMW, Renault and Stellantis are being stored in junkyards in Europe and across the Atlantic. The cars don't have much mileage, but their batteries can't be repaired.

There are two main reasons for this:

  • Some manufacturers use compact batteries welded onto the chassis, which reduces manufacturing costs but makes disassembly difficult or impossible.
  • Other manufacturers do not provide access to battery data, making diagnosis and repair impossible.

According to Synetiq, the UK's leading salvage company for used vehicles and spare parts, 95% of electric car battery cells stored in scrap yards are intact and reusable.
