World Cup Qatar 2022Forbes magazine has published a list of the main sums invested, sponsored or won during the World Cup which is being held from 20 November to 18 December 2022 in Qatar. This is the most expensive World Cup in history.

Some of the most important figures include:

  • 220 billion USD: the amount spent by Qatar over the past ten years to prepare for the World Cup. This is a record budget, by far exceeding Russia's budget, the host country of the 2018 World Cup, which spent 14.2 billion USD.
  • 6.5 billion - 10 billion USD: the estimated range for the construction of seven soccer stadiums in the country
  • 4.7 billion: the revenue that FIFA could generate
  • 1.7 billion: FIFA's expenses
  • 440 million USD: the World Cup's total prize money
  • 277 million USD: the amount David Beckham received from Qatar to serve as an ambassador for the sporting event
  • 209 million USD: reward granted by FIFA to the soccer clubs for the development of the players present in the tournament
  • 128 million USD: salary of the highest paid footballer participating in the World Cup. It is the French Kylian Mbappé
  • 42 million USD: the prize awarded to the team that wins the World Cup
