Northern Angola hit by torrential rains

Angola torrential rainsThe provinces of Luanda, Luanda Norte and Cabinda, located in the north of Angola, have been experiencing heavy rains for several weeks.

The provisional death toll stood at 54 with more than 450 people injured. The heavy rainfall has also affected 44 000 people and damaged 4 000 homes.

Several factors have contributed to the high number of victims, including unplanned land use, poor urban infrastructure and non-compliance with building regulations.

The Angolan government is currently working on an emergency plan to help those affected.
