Natural disasters in the United States: 2022 report
Hurricane Ian was the biggest loss of the year with an estimated insured loss of 65 billion USD. The Category 4 hurricane made landfall at Coya Costa in western Florida on 28 September with extreme winds of up to 240 km/h, torrential rains and a tide.
Ian resulted in 109 deaths across 19 Florida counties, making it one of the deadliest storms in recent history.
