Europe: insurers’ stress tests

The Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors (CEIOPS), a European Union’s  entity in charge of supervising the sector, will impose compulsory tests to assess Europe’s major insurers’ resilience.

The results of the major European insurers (AXA, Allianz, AGF, Generali…) have been impacted in 2008 by the assets depreciation due to the financial crisis.

The CEIOPS, therefore, is keen on ensuring that the top thirty European insurance players are able to withstand the crisis and its fallout.

Such “ stress tests” will be carried out in 2010 and will pertain to the 2009 results.
