The shortage of skills is a problem for the insurance sector

According to Sethunya Molosiwa, head of Botswana Life actuarial department, the insurance sector might become an industry in its own right if development means were available.

Speaking during the 37th Organisation of Eastern and Southern African Insurers (OESAI) annual conference, S. Mulosiwa proposed, among others, the use of governmental bonds as an access to State's funding.

S. Mulosiwa also pointed out the shortage of skills (accountants, actuaries, software developers ...) which is slowing down the full development of the insurance sector on the continent. The shortage, global in some fields, brings African companies "to compete for resources with multinationals from developed countries", she complained.
