More than 12 years after the crash of Air Algérie flight AH5017 on 24 July 2014, Spanish airline Swiftair has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
On 28 September 2026, the Paris Criminal Court sentenced Swiftair to the maximum penalty, a fine of 225 000 EUR (255 290 USD).
The court found that negligence in the training and instruction of the pilots undoubtedly contributed to the accident.
On 24 July 2014, the “McDonnell Douglas MD-83” aircraft, chartered by Air Algérie from Swiftair, disappeared from radar more than half an hour after taking off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, en route to Algiers, Algeria.
The aircraft crashed in Mali, killing all 110 passengers and six crew members on board.
