5 dead after two planes collided at Tokyo airport

Two planes collided at Tokyo airportA Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 caught fire after colliding with a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft on the ground at Tokyo-Haneda International Airport on 2 January 2024.

All 367 passengers and 12 crew members were safely evacuated from the Airbus, while 5 of the six occupants of the Coast Guard aircraft lost their lives. The captain was the only survivor, but was reportedly seriously injured.

The coastguard aircraft was preparing to take off to rescue victims of the series of violent earthquakes that struck the Noto peninsula in central Japan between 1 and 2 January 2024.
