Munich Re holds on to top spot in global reinsurance ranking

Munich ReAM Best has published its ranking of the world's top 50 reinsurers by turnover for the year 2021. Munich Re has maintained its leading position on the global reinsurance market for the second year in a row.

The German group has recorded 46.836 billion USD of written premiums in 2021, which represents a 2% increase compared to 2020. According to the rating agency, it is the only company to record an annual turnover exceeding 40 billion USD.

For its part, Swiss Re has kept the second place in the ranking with a 7% growth of written premiums reaching 39.202 billion USD.

With premiums amounting to 31.443 billion USD in 2021, Hannover Re remains in the third position in the ranking.

All in all, the 50 global reinsurers achieved a turnover of 353 billion USD in 2021. This figure has increased by 10% compared to the 321 billion USD recorded in 2020.
