The COMESA is negotiating with South Africa for the yellow card

The Secretary General of Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has started talks with the South African authorities in view of extending the scope of application for the system of the yellow card covering motor and third party liability insurance.

Set up ten years ago, COMESA's yellow card plan is designed to facilitate traffic and to guarantee indemnification of road accident casualties throughout 20 countries in the region. According to recent statistics, 70 612 yellow cards have been delivered between July 2006 and June 2007 for a gross premium amount of 259 million KES (3.9 million USD) .
