cycloneLess than six weeks after the passage of Cyclone Idaï, Mozambique is facing a new natural disaster. Kenneth, a category 4 Cyclone, is ravaging since Thursday 25 April 2019 the country strongly affected by Idaï.

The cities of Macomia, Pemba and Ibo Island are the most hit.

According to Mozambique National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), the depression that formed off Madagascar was intensified while approaching the country. The gusts reached 300 km/h. A first assessment reported at least 38 casualties, 160 000 persons threatened and 35 000 houses and buildings already damaged or destroyed. Drinking water is increasingly scarce with an imminent risk of cholera.

Kenneth would not disperse quickly even if the wind decreased. Rains continue to fall with 50 millimeters expected for the day of April 30, 2019.
