According to France Assureurs, insurers will settle 20 520 claims for damage caused by cyclone Chido, which severely hit Mayotte on 14 December 2024. The total losses amounted to 494 million EUR (528.8 million USD).
Claims were related to damage to personal property (39%), business and local community property (44%) and vehicles (15%).
Insurance companies have extended the time limit for reporting claims from 30 to 60 days, following an initial extension to 45 days on 18 December 2024.
