Considered as one of Africa's leading institutions, the African Insurance Organization (AIO) is an inclusive framework, open to a multitude of entities working to develop the insurance sector on a continental level.
African Insurance Organization membership
AIO has two types of members: full members and associate members.
Full members
Full membership of the African Insurance Organization is open to the following entities operating in accordance with the national laws of the countries on the continent:
- insurance and reinsurance companies,
- brokers,
- actuaries and other support services,
- insurance supervisory authorities in member countries,
- insurance training centers,
- national and regional insurance associations.
Associate members
In addition to full members, the AIO welcomes associate members, belonging to one of the following categories:
- insurance or reinsurance companies, brokers and other players in the insurance sector, established outside Africa but maintaining business relations with African companies.
- educational institutions whose mission is to promote training in the African insurance market.

Members of the African Insurance Organization in 2024
At the end of June 2024, the African Insurance Organization had 421 members from 47 African countries and 13 countries outside the continent.

AIO members by region
English-speaking West Africa had the largest number of members in 2024, with 121. In second place comes East Africa with 85 members, followed by Southern Africa with 80.

During 53 years of operation, the African Insurance Organization (AIO) has built up a solid network of partnerships and collaborations, maintaining close links with international and regional organizations.
