Morocco: Serious Fall out Between BTP and Insurance Companies
For recall, legislators wished to clean up a sector that insurers found too costly. Amendments to the June 19, 2003 law are unlikely to have solved the problem. Disputes still oppose insurers and assured. The disputes focus on:
- The increase rate of premium that policy-holders find too expensive
- The effective date of the law (problem of retroactivity)
The sharpest objections arise from the General Confederation of the Companies of Morocco (CGEM) and the National Federation of BTP (FNBTP).
BTP's insurers and professionals are appealing to the Prime Minister's arbitration to resolve the dispute.
